7:15 am: Lots of rain and thunderstorms early as a pre-frontal line of showers/t-storms pushes across the coast with waves in the half a foot to 1 foot range from what we can see through the rain. Conditions appear to be clean, with our local winds currently blowing out of the E @ about 8 knots. Our marine forecast is calling for the wind to clock offshore and increase out of the SW/W throughout the afternoon and eventually turn out of the NW in the evening as much colder air rushes in. Our current wave heigh reading is 2.3 feet @ 8 seconds, up from yesterday’s early wave height reading of 1.6 feet @ 4 seconds on the local buoy offshore. 11:25 am:   New mid morning photos are up box #1 and wow want a morning it has been at the beach!   A tornado warning earlier, with lots of rain.   The front pushed through and much of the rain is offshore now, with west winds beating down the swell that is trying to push in.   Some knee high to knee high plus peaks on occasion.   Cloudy, overcast, and no one surfing……

Dean is calling for a cold week ahead and a sizeable (especially south) winter swell in the Surf Station Surf Forecast.

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction and water temperature just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf conditions influenced by winter cold fronts.
