7:15 am: Early on this Monday morning, the waves look very very small. Close to flat is the before sunrise early morning call. Our local buoy is currently reading 2.3 feet at 5 seconds, up a tad in size from yesterdays 1.6 feet @ 11 seconds. The marine forecast is calling for SW winds this morning. You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here..

7:45 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see the waves are super duper small. Maybe 1/2 a foot is what I am seeing on second look. Hoping for some hope is what we are lookng for on this Monday morning…… .

12:30 pm: New late morning to mid day photos are up in box #2 and you can see the waves continue very small. Only up to 1 foot, but most waves are less than that, around 1/2 a foot. The wind is picking up some sideoffshore SW to SSW….

8:15 pm: Evening Note: Super super super small surf this evening. Here are few photos from the beach. Ans here is a link to the Murf E-Bike and CI Surfboards Demo Day that we are having TOMORROW at the Surf Station. Come by and check it out!

On this date, March 24th, 24 years ago today: The water temperature rose from 62 to 66 degrees today. Plans to put a anemometer on the new Surf Station website were born. Young Carson Strange gets his first sunburn as a baby on the beach.

Following the decent-size, clean groundswell during the last days of Winter last week, the 7-Day Surf Station Surf Forecast looks ahead to the first swell of Spring filling in later this week.

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of the up/down fluctuations in NE Florida surf size and water temperatures influenced by late winter cold fronts. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.
