7:05 am: Still chilly this Sunday morning with waves looking to be similar size to yesterday, in the 1-2+ foot range. Our local winds are currently blowing out of the WNW @ just 3 knots, providing some cleaner conditions compared to yesterday afternoon. The marine forecast is calling for SE winds later on, so it looks like those straight onshore winds may be starting to ease a bit. Our local buoy is currently reading 2 feet @ 9 seconds, down quite a bit from yesterday’s 4.6 feet at 8 second readings. Our local buoy came in with a water temp of 66.7 early. Dean’s updated Surf Station Forecast calls for a modest uptick leading into the weekend behind the latest cold front passage. The first half of next week will see a nice warming trend ahead of another front mid-week, followed by an increasing onshore flow and a significant increase in combo swell into Friday the 13th. Here is a good link to accurately track real-time, near-shore surf temperatures off the NE Florida coast… the Fernandina Beach buoy is climbing up now after briefly bottoming out at 63.5F mid-week. Located upstream (to the north) much closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator for dropping and rising surf temps dictated by winter cold air outbreaks followed by warming trends.
