7:25 am: Choppy large surf start our our Monday. Hurricane Kirks Groundswells have filled in more overnight. It would be so much better if the wind were cooperating but it’s not as we have strong onshores on top of the 3-4+ foot surf. The marine forecast calls for strong NE winds today. Our local buoy the early morning wave height reading is 5.6 feet at 17 seconds up from yesterdays 5.2 feet at 14 seconds. The water temperature is measured at 81.7 degrees offshore again this morning. You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.
.
8:15 am: Early morning photos are up box #1 and you can see we have… some occasional sizable waves for your Monday. In between the large groundswells the waves are only about thigh to rib high, but some set waves from Hurricane Kirk are more than filtering in with some shoulder to head high ‘out the back’ near bombs at times, if you wait around long enough for the sets to arrive. Such a shame the wind is not offshore.
.
7:30 pm: Evening note: Strong groundswells from Hurricane Kirk along St. Augustine Beach this evening. Wave size at rib to shoulder high with some overhead set waves pushing through. It’s real thick with the up to 17 second intervals indicating the waves are coming from far away. The more space in between the waves make the wave thicker and thus more water & strength when the wave hits the sandbar. The surfers are handling the waves well, even with all the wipeouts. Looks challenging and fun.
This will do it until tomorrow morning… over and out….
Hurricane Milton note for this surf report: Upon arrival of the hurricane to Florida, in the event we lose power, and we have not a way of updating this surf report (about a 50-50 chance), the report will still go on, with a modified version moved to our instagram platform as long as the iPhone battery powered report is still able to be loaded and transmitted. So check/save bookmark our surf report instagram(s) here: https://www.instagram.com/surfstationsurfreport/ and our main page instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/thesurfstation/. Once the power is restored, we will be back here on our www platform, and back to normal, in time.
