Surf Reports comments:

7:15 am: Finally not foggy this morning. The waves are similar in size from yesterday, with the wave size @ 1.5-2 feet. The surface conditions are semi-glassy to glassy with the wind very light SSW and expected to shift S later today according to the marine forecast . Our local buoy offshore is currently reading 3.3 feet at 9 seconds down in size from yesterdays 4.6 feet at 7 seconds, You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here ,

8:00 am: Early morning photos are up box #1 and you can see we have potential for today. Not too small overall but inconsistnet on the larger, better waves. Wave size @ knee high to thigh high with some freak larger set waves on occasion. It’s glassy with fair to good form on that waves. Looks like we are going to have sunny skies today, which is nice. Maybe the coming bright sunshine will warm up the water some?

9:00 am: The wind is already backing around SE as you can see on our up to the minute anemometer on our weather page. This page loads super fast if you happen to have a slow computer. The surf is still semi-glassy at report time. But it will likely become less so as the wind picks up. Darby is congot come in next with your mid day to afternoon surf report

11:30 am: There’s a bit more wind and surface texture for your midday report, with our local winds currently blowing out of the SSW @ 10 to 15 knots. The waves are looking to be in the 1.5 foot to 2.5 foot range with fair conditions. Our local buoy is currently reading 2.6 feet @ 10 seconds, down significantly from this morning’s early wave height reading of 4.6 feet. We have a low tide approaching just after 2 this afternoon and we’re starting to see it break on the outside at key sandbars. Overall, there’s certainly waves to be had, especially if you can find some southern wind protection. I’d say go find your favorite low tide sandbar and make a go of it. 7:00 pm: Evening Note: The surf does not look great this evening. I took some photos and posted them on our surf report instagram Story here. You can see a few fun looking inside waves, but that’s about it.

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf size and water temperatures influenced by winter cold fronts. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.
