Surf Reports comments:

7:15 am: The waves early on this Thursday morning are super small. Very small N swell @ 1/2 a foot or so. The wind is sideoffshore NW to NNW / N. Our local buoy is currently reading 2.0 feet at 5 seconds up from yesterdays 1.3 feet at 3 seconds. The marine forecast is calling NE winds today. You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here..

8:00 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see we the new N angle to the small scale swell that is trying to start up. it’s not as flat as yesterday with some shin high waves. Not lower shin high but upper shin high on some of the waves. So the waves are bigger than yesterday. We will see if this new start of an upward trend continues….

Following last week’s decent-size, clean groundswell during the last days of Winter earlier this month, the 7-Day Surf Station Surf Forecast looks past the near flat surf this week to Spring’s first swell that will build next weekend, with wind clocking offshore late Sunday/Monday. (ps… check out April 1st in the 7-day)

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of the up/down fluctuations in NE Florida surf size and water temperatures influenced by late winter cold fronts. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.
