Surf Reports comments:

7:15 am: It’s looking a touch smaller than yesterday, with waves in the half a foot to maybe 1 foot range. It’s dark and gloomy out early, making it a little difficult to see the waves. Conditions are clean, with our local winds currently blowing out of the N @ less than 1 knot, near dead calm early. Our marine forecast is calling for those winds to increase out of the SW throughout the afternoon with rain likely this morning and throughout the day. Our current wave heigh reading is 1.6 feet @ 4 seconds on the local buoy offshore, a shorter period reading than yesterday’s 1.6 feet @ 10 seconds. 11:30 am: New mid to late morning photos are up box #2 with some changes starting to happen at the beach. Is there a little bit of south swell to come up? Goodness there is swell offshore, see the East Canaveral Buoy here. Will some of it work it’s way in here? We will see…

Dean is calling for more cold weather to start next week, followed by somewhat “milder” (near normal) temperatures and a multi-day swell starting around mid-week in the Surf Station Surf Forecast .

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction and water temperature just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of fluctuations in NE Florida surf conditions influenced by winter cold fronts. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.
