Surf Reports comments:

7:25 am: A chilly Tuesday morning with the waves trying to start up from the N this morning. . Wave size 1-1.5 feet looking at it early. Our local buoy is currently reading 3.9 feet at 5 seconds similar to yesterdays 3.9 feet at 7 seconds. We have chilly NW winds early with the marine forecast is calling for the NW wind to shift NE today. You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.

8:05 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and on second look, the waves look bigger than the first look. Looking more like 1-2 feet ahead 1 to 1.5 feet as there may be some peaks waist high. A lot of the waves are smaller than that, more like knee ot occ. thigh high. But a few new N swell peaks are sliding in once in a while. You can see it in the photos….

1:45 pm: New mid and late morning photos are up in box #2 and you can see it’s quite choppy now. The wind clocked more onshore and the surf is coming up. The photos were taken at 3rd Street and also at Crescent Beach, home of the Surf Station spring break surf camp. The groms are stoked hitting the water. Sunny skies and some now powerful waves. Waves size is now over waist high on set waves and quite drifty from the north…..

The latest 7-Day Surf Station Surf Forecast calls for a pulse of longer period groundswell from a strong open Atlantic gale to start filtering in on Wednesday, lingering into Thursday with favorably light to offshore wind.

Here is a good link to track near-shore wave height/period/direction just off the NE Florida coast: the Fernandina Beach buoy. Located upstream (to the north) and closer to the coast than the St. Augustine buoy, it’s a good indicator of the up/down fluctuations in NE Florida surf size and water temperatures influenced by late winter cold fronts. Here is an overview of a large-scale, real-time wind map to track the shifting winds associated with the fronts and lows that produce our waves.
