LOCAL LEGEND CALLS OUT THE COMPETITION
– Golden Boy Evan Geiselman reigns supreme after a come from behind run at the 2014 Red Bull Call Em Out-
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL – April 5, 2014 – After a marathon run into the one-on-one final, it was “Golden Boy” Evan Geiselman who reigned supreme as the 2014 Red Bull Call Em Out champion. Despite having dominating runs going into the finals, former 2013 Rip Curl Pro champion Cody Thompson could not keep the New Smyrna Beach native at bay. After an early loss to Evan Thompson, Geiselman fought through four consecutive elimination heats, winning the title along with bragging rights.
“After my loss against Evan Thompson in the semi finals, I made sure to kick it into an extra gear and not loose again,” said Geiselman.
Geiselman turned up the heat, winning back-to-back rounds against Ryan Briggs, Evan Thompson, and eventually defeating Cody Thompson in the final faceoff. “I was exhausted after my second heat against Evan Thompson, but was excited to surf against Cody in the finals,” said Geiselman. “I ended up having to surf against Cody twice and thought it was really cool to come home with the win.”
Red Bull Call Em Out kicked off this year’s Surfing the Blues 2014 event with a unique double elimination bracket format that served as a showcase for some of Florida’s most dynamic and talented surfers.
The head to head “call out” format included epic pairings of working class Joes, weekend warriors, childhood prodigies, industry professionals like Asher Nolan, family rivalries with Cody, Evan and Tristan Thompson, and hometown heroes like Justin Quintal.
“I think this event was a really cool concept,” said Geiselman. “I just kept getting called out the whole time. I would of loved to get the chance to call someone out myself.”
The wide array of talent for the event allowed for some very gutsy “call outs” like the up-and-coming Hobie Sears taking on Evan Thompson in the second round.
