I think the updated every 7 minutes is in theory, but often I’ll click on the youtube site and the cam is running an hour or more behind. Case in point, I checked out the cam page tonight at 1847, and the most recent clip was from 1720, almost an hour and a half old! Most of the time, I hate to admit, I end up going to the Pit Surf Shop’s surf report because their cams are the constantly streaming kind.

I really apprecaite the feedback. I sent and e-mail to our tech guys about figuring a way to make the time gap between when the image is taken and it is uploaded shorter.
Yes I have not put much time & effort into our cam as I am not into them myself. Most cams I look at, you can only get a partial feel for what the surf is really like. They are far away, not crystal clear, and the look/feel many times doesn’t give a accurate portrayal of what is really going on. Sometimes the surf does not look good and it really is, and vice versa! This is why for years we do the eyes on detailed reports with photos, descriptions, and more. But for a quick glance… I agree.. a cam can be helpful and we will see what we can do. Thank you for the feedback. -Tory

I miss the steady stream of the surf cam, only way to see real time. What would it take to get it back up and running on the site?

Luremewave,
We opted for this way to do video because 1. It uses less bandwidth which is expensive, and 2. It offers the viewer the ability to play back a given wave or ride or whatever is seen. Live Video does not offer this (that I have seen) .
Yes there is a short delayed but every 7 minutes a new video is uploaded here: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSurfStation. You can bookmark this page as it may give a better overview and more up to date clips than the video on this page. We do not record overnight, for obvious reasons. And the recorded videos are deleted/erased every 48 hours.
Hope this helps and keep the feedback coming!

I think the cam is busted, even on the Youtube page, the most recent is 1730ish 18 June. It’s about 2 days behind.

Sunking,
The power went out at my house, and I forgot to turn that computer back on when it came back on. Thanks for the heads up.
It’s back up and running now… and was within 7 minutes of real time when I checked. Again thank you for letting us know. -Tory

Thanks Tory! Now I can see all the awesome waves I’m missing LOL! Starting to get flatness fever. Good thing I got into your shop on Father’s Day to pick up some super small wave tools! Time to get that new Beater board wet!

Yes better. Thanks. But is there anyway to adjust the contrast in the cam to get it even better?
Again thank you Tory!

Joe,
It records the ocean for a later playback. The time it takes to process is sometimes lagging.
Try this, go directly to the SS Your Tube page and you can likely find more updated clips. Sometimes very up to date. Here is the link:

Brad,
Let me look into this. (Thank you for the feedback!)

Brad,
I contacted Mike, our back end man and here is what he said:
“I see the date and time on the videos when the video is stopped/paused. Do you not see the date and time? maybe there’s another style of youtube player, that can always show the video description, but i don’t see the problem. The thing with the delay is the same old thing with youtube. They take a variable amount of time to update the playlist and sometimes it’s longer than others. They still do not give control over that.”
Now, if you click the link below the cam it takes you to a page where on the right hand side, there are several more up to date videos with time stamps. Check it here:
