Danielle’s swell dropped quickly and this morning we woke up to clean waist high leftovers. We went out on boat hoping to find an island with a bit more swell and catch some big fish in the process.

What we found were big rocks, little waves, and small fish. Oh well. We still caught dinner and enjoyed another day of amazing weather so all is well. We had planned to stay up here through the weekend, but it’s looking like we may end up dead in the path of Earl and are over getting marooned in a Hurricane. Instead, we are looking to hop a flight tomorrow and hopefully catch the surf FL is about to enjoy. Anyway, check the video below!

The surf came up today as expected thanks to Hurricane Danielle. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite as big as we’d hoped it would be. There were some inconsistent head high sets at times which peeled nicely down the rock points up this way. Nothing amazing, but super fun. Certainly not complaining.

Looks like Earl has picked up steam ( I just got horrible news that the famous Bomba Shack in Tortola was destroyed) and I really hope everyone in the Northern Caribbean is okay. That is one massive Hurricane. Looks like the entire Eastern Seaboard is about to get some great surf, and hopefully Earl never gets close enough to anyone to do any further damage.

Other than the Patriots and Celtics, there in nothing I don’t love about this part of the United States. It’s absolutely beautiful. Right now, the weather is perfect.

We are camping out and hiking around hoping to find a few shreddable points during the next six days. Here is a quick video of our day of traveling and the small surf we stumbled into. Hopefully with all this storm activity we’ll see something with some more size soon…I’ll have a new video up daily while we’re here!

Last year when I surfed Uluwatu it was solid everyday but El-Nino has really affected Indonesia, as well as the rest of the world. Usually this time of year Indo has these long lasting, drawn out swells. But from what I’ve seen and heard of, the swells this winter have been very bleak. Not to mention it has rained almost every morning, considering this is usually the dry season. My first session back at Ulu’s was the smallest I’ve ever seen it, waist to chest high but still really fun. I was glad to just get in the water after a few days of licking my wounds from G-land and just hanging out in paradise. My session was high lighted by surfing with a bunch of frothing Aussie and Indo groms, just ripping. Especially the kids that live out at Uluwatu, they are so lucky to have grown up on such a wave. I will have to say, I’ve never seen 10 to 14 year old kids surf that good. Its amazing the level that such young kids are on now a days. Air reverses? No problem, and a 10 year old going straight up and throwing the tail in a way I could have only dreamt of when I was that age. If I surfed half as good as those kids do when I was 12, then maybe my surfing would have actually gone somewhere. Surfing with all of them put the biggest smile on my face and made me feel like a grom again.
