Everything good must come to an end.

Hey everyone!

Sadly my Puerto Rico excursion has come to an end.  My good friend Maria and her boyfriend Josie picked me up from Rincon and we all went back to Aguadilla.  There were some crazy characters staying at Josie’s house, like Dylan (Josie’s brother) as well as Eric and Evan Geiselman.  We all hung out and watched to footage of them shreding at Wishing Wells and The Mix.  Eric busted a huge air but didn’t quite make the landing, sending him to the reef and resulting in a ghetto-fabulous duct tape band aide.  After slugging down more than a few heineken’s my friend Alejandro Moreda decided he needed a hair cut, and that I was the perfect candidate for the job.  Let me say I tried my best, but boy do I wish I had a picture of the end result.  Don’t worry Ale, it will grow back soon!

My plane left the next day at 3′o clock.  The boys went off the find the biggest surf they could, while Maria and I headed to the bakery for one last time.  After our delicious but not so nutritious breakfast we headed for the beach.  First we checked Surfer’s Beach.  It was fairly good sized and clean, but the paddle out looked dreadful because it was like a never ending set.  We then went to Wilderness where we found really fun, clean surf.  We waited for the right time, jumped on our boards and paddled out through the channel.

The locals were sitting far up the point and catching the set waves.  Maria didn’t hesitate to get some too.  Here she is killing it-

I opted to stay more in front of the parking lot, and even found a few lefts.

After surfing for a few hours, we went in and some fried egg sandwiches for lunch.  it was already 12:30, but we were aching for one more surf before I left.  We headed back to Surfer’s where it had already began to drop since earlier that morning.  There were a lot of people out and catching waves was hard.  Our friend and puerto rican local Lisie got a sick barrel on one of her waves that had the beach cheering  Before we knew it, it was already 1:30 and I still had to pack and get to the airport in time to check in and go through security.

We rushed home to get my suitcase and pack my board bag.  With my hair soaking wet and my feet sandy, I threw on some dry clothes and we sped to the Aguadilla airport.  Thankfully, it was 3 King’s Day, and national holiday for Puerto Rico and the lines at the airport were not bad.  I checked in, grabbed one last orange Fanta out of the vending machine and got in line because my plane was already boarding.  Just as I got to the front of the line I saw 4 guys I knew from Daytona Beach come rushing into the airport like a cyclone.  They had been surfing at Surfer’s Beach the same time as us and were wet and sandy as well which I found pretty funny.  We boarded our JetBlue plane as I said farewell to Puerto Rico one last time.  It was then I felt a deep sadness as I realized how much I really loved this place, and I can’t wait to go back.

Puerto Rico

Hey everyone!  Let me start off by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Haley, I’m 17 years old from Flagler Beach and I’m a Surf Station/Girl Next Door team rider. I’m coming at ya from Rincon, Puerto Rico and the nice folks in charge of this awesome site hooked me up with a blog to share my time spent here and beyond.  So kick back, relax, and thanks for reading!

It’s already my 5th day here in paradise.  After an early morning flight out of Orlando International my friend and photographer for www.mysurfingphoto.com Angelo Cordero picked me up from the airport in Aguadilla.  It was freezing when I left Florida at 5am the morning, however when I arrived in PR needless to say I was burning up in my sweat pants and hoodie.  We went to Wilderness and it was huge!  The locals were calling it 15-20 foot.  It was a little too big for me to paddle out, so instead I opted to watch some of my friends and the Graves brothers get towed into some epic waves.  We made our way home to Ricon and went down the hill to Maria’s, where I found some fun, more manageable surf.

The surf dropped the next day, and then it was on for New Years!  I had an a great time with great people and even ending up running down the hill at night with Leif… barefoot!  The next day the waves were still small so we all just kicked back. There are a lot of yankee’s here and they make fun of me saying I have a country accent, Florida born and raised is what I say to them!  Saturday the wind was a little different so I surfed at Sandy’s Beach… with about 200 of my closest friends.  I managed to get a few and had fun. Here’s me about to paddle out

Today the surf was very small.  I surfed at Pool’s for about 2 hours where there were a rideable fun little rights and lefts.  I also started to get a little home-sick, so I talked to my best friend Gillian on the phone today.  She is the best.  My friend Angelo where I am staying lives at the top of the hill where there are many trees. We ventured down into the woods today with a machette and found a huge stock of banana’s.  Looks like I know what I’ll be eating for breakfast a lot!

We enjoyed our SundayFunday by relaxing, cooking chicken and rice and beans for dinner. and watching NFL football.  Good game Dolphins you almost had ‘em at the end! And for the Jags, better luck next time.  Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to sharing the rest of my adventure’s with ya’ll!

hey!
