Guatemala = Sweat and 20ft Close-Outs
Posted by: Dustin
Ventured to Central America in search of the last little segment for Thrills, Spills and What Not (the Dane film). Instead we scored 20ft close outs, pool time, black sand hot as crap beaches, broken safes with our passports inside, Latin Dane super fans, and 2 decent waves on film. Lesson learned and never go to Guatemala on a surf trip. Never. You win some, you lose some. That is what makes it great and keeps us laughing.

Dane Film Update
Posted by: Dustin
Hey gang, just wanted to give everyone an update on the Dane Reynolds film I have been working on. I just spent all last week in Ventura editing. Things are becoming more real. Honestly, it has been hard for me to believe Dane asked me to work on a film with him. Every step toward the final edit allows me to believe it more. We also have two teasers to be released soon…we need to come up with a title first. Dane has a couple ideas.
Just so you know, its not going to be a second chapter…its going to be very different. I have a feeling people will either love or hate it. Which I love, and could honestly careless what anyone thinks. Plus, it was all shot in film by Dane and myself. Dane has pushed me creativity more than anyone has in the long time. The music isn’t going to be the current uppity pop electro deal. Its kinda weird. Sounds like it was scored in a garage, which is what he wanted. Dane himself is playing some of the music…he has been taking piano lessons the past year.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone what was going on. Love you all. I love Saint Augustine.
Here are some photos from last week…
Gabe’s Backdoor

I’m a day late here. Zander covered yesterday’s mayhem. We were going to write the same blog and freak people out, but we didn’t. Proud to be on the lawn at the Matix house when Gabe surfs. Its good. Here are some photos from the day…

"I sure hope the judges don't underscore me against Roy." - Gabriel
Here is some video footage from that morning, which would be yesterday…
MICK AND JOEL AND KP…SHREDDING
Today, shot at Backdoor and Off The Wall. The waves looked amazingly fun…blue sky…dudes in speedos. Video footage to follow. Love you all. Be home Monday night…Chick-Fil-A here I come.
I’m In Hawaii Too!
Posted by: Dustin
Hey everyone, got to Hawaii on Saturday night. Kids did great on the flight. Got to watch WVU beat Rutgers and make it to the Gator Bowl. Thanks Delta for the TV. We were all pretty beat, here are some airplane humans…
Yesterday (Sunday), Backdoor and Pipe were doing there thing a little bit. Kelly was riding a quad. CJ has a nice backside. Cory got some good ones. Basically those guys surf that scary wave so good. Myself, indeed, would die if I paddled out. Not joking one bit. Here is a quicky video, check out my opening shot of this bodybuilder. I punched him in the face right after…
They have been hype’n this crazy swell. Woke up, Aaron Taylor and I checked it…well, it was big and stormy…but not even crazy big. Kinda wrote it off, ate breakfast, played with the kids, and hung out with Zander and Jimmicane. Noticed the swell kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Its not clean but they are the biggest waves I have ever seen. Aaron claims its the biggest he has ever seen. We sat at Rockpiles for a good hour watching bombs drop…
Don’t let that amazing iPhone photo fool you, its 30 foot plus out there. Driving home we saw some crazy sets at Shark’s Cove…we were claiming 50 foot. Could be wrong. Either way it looks scary as crap. Looks like the Eddie is running tomorrow. Traffic is a mess. Beaches are closed. Saw a dude try to paddle out. Oh, the North Shore. I didn’t see Rick Cane today though. Bummer.
Frogs Aren’t French

Hey everyone, been in France for a week or so now. Contest is done. World Title race got interesting. Been having a good time, but missing my family. Been looking for sand banks and eating rock hard baquettes. Might go to Germany to surf a river…we’ll see. Shot with St.Augustine’s Ryan Miller the other day and he pulled out some speedos from the trunk of his car. He said, “When in Rome,” as he put them on and proceeded to post up on the beach. See what I mean…
The bakery’s here are great. Ate this thing today…
Here are some wave frame grabs. Yes, Dane pulled that. And yes, Nathaniel sprayed the SUP dude…

Love you all. Be home in October, I’ll keep you all updated from Europe.
US Open of People
Posted by: Dustin
Hey everyone, I was home 3 whole days then off to the US Open of People, I mean Surfing. The waves have been kinda big. Couple double over head sets. There was also about 100,000 people on the beach today, not kidding one bit. Wish I was. I’m here to shoot the WPS All Star Expression Session…CJ, Kelly, Rob, Andy, Bruce, Heitor, Mick, and Yadin. Great fun. Hurley has been treating us well, putting us all in a rad hotel and they gave the surfers new MacBook Pro’s! Crazy. Did I get one…nope. Here are some photos from the festivities…
1. Airplane wing, I like taking these.
2. This has been my view a lot lately.
3. At least it wasn’t crowded…
4. Mobile studio.
5. Mat Kearny played, he’s great…check him out.
6. CJ and I went to try and shoot at the wedge, but it was insane crowded, and unfortunately a bodysurfer was killed. News crews everywhere. Really sad.
7. On a lighter note and speaking a CJ, look at this frame grab from the Expression Session. He’s pretty dang high. And yes, he got whipped in. Still amazing.

Ok, off to bed. Been waking up at 1:30am from South African plus West Coast jetlag, but have forced myself back to sleep. All good. Missing the waves back home, looks super fun. Love you all. See you Tuesday. Thanks for reading this junk and looking at the bad iPhone photos!
J-Bay Update #2
Posted by: Dustin
Wow, not sure if you guys were awake to watch the webcast, the waves were pumping. J-Bay is so amazing, and right now there is a ton of sand in the line-up from a storm a couple weeks ago. That’s why there are some many tubes. Really fun to watch. Dane getting a 10. Kelly scoring FOUR 9′s in one heat, and they ALL should have been 10′s. I’ve never been that excited to watch a contest, normally they aren’t that cool. Here’s some more iPhone snaps, one of the line-up and one of Damo’s wetsuit with socks and shoes…

Been busy shooting heaps, bru. We do a Surf with the Stars event where the pro’s surf with the local kids. It’s so fun. Here is the video link…SURF WITH THE STARS. Great day. How was Mick duck-diving that kid? These events were Mick’s idea, he’s a good man.
There has been waves, so here are some shredding clips…WIND TUNNELS, DANE-KELLY-TAYLOR, and ONE DAY AT JAY BAY.
Thanks for watching and supporting me from home. Go Curren, Damo, and Dane!
Jeffery’s Blog

Hey everyone, this is my first official Bro Station blog. Honored to update my stuff here. In South Africa at the moment, and it’s no St.Augustine, but I love it here. Check the view of where we stay…
Woke up today at 4:30am, which really felt like 10:30pm the previous day to look for waves. It was a dream to drive down the coast with Dane, Kelly, and Taylor shooting film. I brought some 16mm short ends to have fun and work on the Dane project. We found a fun beach break and Kelly rode a board with a shallow nose and round tail. Weird and he was ripping on it. Taylor broke his pinky toe last night, his foot was literally black and blue…but he did his signature man hacks all morning. Dane…well…he’s Dane and in my opinion the best surfer in the world right now. Here are some crappy iPhone snaps from today…
1. My friend Sam shooting water and looking a lot like a seal.
2. My favorite camera.
3. Sand dunes, looking for weird coves or something.
4. Dane charging it down the dirt road. I’m glad we didn’t see a rhino.
5. Sand dunes. Looks like another planet.
6. Taylor and Kelly
Thanks for reading my randomness. Love and miss you all. See you in a couple weeks.
